22 miles on the Nashua River rail-trail today; 11 out and 11 back. That's the whole thing from Ayer to the New Hampshire line.

I didn't originally intend to do this much; I figured maybe 5.5-6 miles out and back. I turned my attention away from my odometer for a bit, and when I looked down I saw that I was already over 7. "Oh heck, only four more miles to the end, I'll go for it!" Got to the end, rested for a bit, and went back.

One thing I noticed is that the trail seems to continue into New Hampshire, but I can't find any references to it online. Maybe I'll ask on [info]bostoncycling if anyone knows about that extension.

I did ride about a hundred yards into New Hampshire just for the heck of it... I think it's the first time I've ever crossed a state line on a bike :)

There is a trail in northern Vermont that ends at the Canadian border... maybe I should check that out sometime too...

22 miles is quite impressive. Hope you're not too sore.

Ooh, very nice looking trail. Thanks for the pointer. I think I may try it out from the Dunstable side of things. How hilly is it? I'm thinking about bringing my son who is very new to bike riding. Thanks!

It's *very* flat, which is the only reason I could do 22 miles. I'm out-of-shape enough that hills really bother me, so discovering this was a godsend. I mean it's got some modest rises and dips, but they're so long and gradual you hardly notice. As [info]ceo said on [info]bostoncycling, trains hate hills even worse than out-of-shape cyclists do, which is why converted railbeds tend to be pretty flat.

How old is your son? I see a lot of families on the trail...

Like I said to [info]roozle, let me know when you plan to go out, maybe I can join you :)

I picked up a map in Montreal Labor Day weekend of a bike trail that goes over the Canadian border. I think the other end is in Vermont. I will find it and let you know. It's pretty cool.
